Beyond hype and amazement, how I realised that chatGPT was a wretched poor little lad.

Hype and Amazement

GPT-4 has been trained on millions of documents. He's read Socrates (via Plato of course) and all possible philosophers. He's read much more than I could ever read in my life if I was living a hundred years. Starting with the whole of WikiPedia.

In term for pure knowledge, he is a giant. Then ...

He doesn't know who he is

Poor little boy. He doesn't even know that GPT-4 has been released, and that he is, in fact GPT-4 himself.

This just feels so weird (and somewhat unfair) to me, that this marvelling piece of knowledge isn't even allowed to know about itself.

He can teach me about Socrates and explain to me the meaning of γνῶθι σεαυτόν, yet, he doesn't know himself that much.
